Budget for your fuel before you go

      1. Work out the distance you’ll be driving on your route, in kilometres (km).

      2. Find out your car’s average fuel consumption - for example, 6.0 litres/100km.

      3. Budget for your trip, as follows: (Distance ÷ 100) × Consumption × Local fuel price per litre.

It’s probably a good idea to add 10% for detours, traffic and air-con, which can use up fuel faster on hot days in the car.

Also, you might need to travel with a mixture of cash and cards to pay for your fuel, food and other things while driving in Europe.
